From time to
time, we read the news headlines about car accidents that caused
deaths and injuries, we read the reason behind these accidents like
drivers using their cell phones while driving or people driving in
the opposite direction, and in the next day, we find people repeating
the same actions. Why did everyone forget what happened yesterday?
This is because many people don’t believe in the consequences of
doing risky actions until it happens to them directly.
In the driver’s
seat, you see fathers holding their children to teach them how to
drive, you see people checking their social media accounts, you see
mothers busy looking at the back seat to watch their children, a lot
of people don’t even use the seat belt although everybody knows how
important it is, but again, no one learns the lesson until it becomes
a fact for them.
A recent study
declared that drivers education significantly reduces crashes and
traffic. This is because education raises the awareness of drivers
with how they should act in emergency situations, and the priorities
of driving steps as well as stressing the importance of following the
rules to be safe. (ref)
In order to
reduce the number of deaths related to driving, there are many steps
that should be taken, I will mention some of them below,
-
Laws that
punishes people who break driving rules should be more enforced, and
there should be tools to track those people, I suggest using the new
technologies to invent cameras that can be installed in the streets
to detect the postures of drivers’ bodies to ensure that their
both arms are on the driving wheel. -
Governments
must pay more attention to the road safety in addition to the speed
of medical care provided when accidents occur. -
There must
be laws to stop old/unsafe vehicles from being used. -
Regarding
exceeding the speed limits, I would suggest spreading ads that
simply calculate the time people save when they increase their
speed, because when they find out that the time saved is very short,
they will appreciate that this short time doesn’t deserve risking
their lives.
I’m blessed
because neither me nor my family members have experienced car
accidents before. In general, the mistake I sometimes do is that if I
received a call, I would check my mobile to see who is calling. But
I’m training myself to turn the mobile on silent mode while driving
and I put it in the back seat. Whatever important calls are, it would
never be more important than my life.
I really hope that the driving safety awareness would spread
everywhere, and I wish to see that when someone posts a picture on
social media bragging about his high speed while driving, he would
find people blaming him and highlighting the risk of this action so
that this person and everyone else seeing the photo would change
their mindsets.
