Driver
Safety Education is pivotal to decreasing the amount of deaths due to
car accidents. People are less likely to be involved in a car wreck
if they are informed of the consequences of driving recklessly such
as texting while driving, driving while under the influence, or not
paying attention. The best course of action to prevent future deaths
due to accidents would be to broadcast small commercials that depict
horrific results of driver negligence. Ads such as the smoking
commercials that disgust the viewer to the point that the problem has
been nearly eradicated except for the recent influx of people
juleing. However, if these results are broadcasted, then more people
will have become more knowledgeable and massive decrease in the death
toll from reckless driving. There was a time when I knew this girl
named Morgan, who was in the same grade as I was, and we had a few
classes together. Morgan was a sophomore in high school, with dreams
and goals that dreams that she wanted to pursue. It was a regular day
in class until her parents notified all of Morgan’s friends that
she had died in a car crash. Later that day the police had given a
statement which identified the driver of her car to be intoxicated
above the legal limit. As a result, he drove the car straight through
a railing and the car fell off the bridge into a river. Because of
that driver’s negligence three high school students had died that
day, lives that could have changed many people. This is one of many
instances were people had fallen victim to the common place
recklessness of drunk driving. When people are informed of the
consequences that might result from the decisions, they begin to
evaluate every decision that they make from that moment. As my older
sister always tells me “It only takes one mistake to ruin your
entire life.” I keep those words to heart because it makes me
cautious when I am about to do something stupid. The only thing that
I can do to make sure people do not put themselves in a situation
like Morgan, is by making sure that if I see something, I say
something. I will also encourage others to do the same so that I can
make my Westside High School community safer, death free. Another
course of action I could take would be to lead by example so that
others may do the same for the betterment of themselves. If everyone
is constantly reminded how fragile human life is then their humanity
will begin to take effect in the lives of others, in the end changing
the way people drive on roads today.
