Driving is
something that many Americans do on a daily basis, but have no idea
how dangerous it can actually be. It is something that we just take
advantage of and use all the time in order to get places. In reality,
driving is very dangerous, especially when people are distracted.
Many people do not realize how many deaths are actually caused by car
accidents each year. The numbers are astonishing. An average of
34,000 Americans die each year due to car accidents. There are some
things that we as drivers can do to prevent that. One of the biggest
things we can do is to not drive while distracted. If people are more
aware of the dangers of distracted driving and how many lives it puts
at risk, then they will hopefully not drive while distracted. Without
learning about these statistics, many drivers have no idea how
dangerous it really is. Personally, I have not had any experiences
with car accidents or people that I know in a car accident.
Thankfully I have not, but that does not mean I won’t. Distracted
driving is a growing concern due to the amount of technology that we
have in the palm of our hands. Getting in a car accident due to
distracted driving could happen to anyone at anytime. Personally, you
may not even be distracted, but someone else driving could be which
could cause an accident.
The
most important step to take to try and prevent the high number of
deaths due to car accidents, is to not drive while distracted. It
seems like something very simple to do, but in reality it can be
difficult for many people. Life moves at such a fast pace these days,
that people feel that they always need to be connected to what is
happening. They feel that they need to continue to be connected even
while they are driving. This is not only a danger to themselves, but
also to everyone around them. One big thing I can do to prevent this
is to never drive and be on my phone at the same time. If i put my
phone completely away while I am driving will help me be less tempted
to get it out and text someone. I can also encourage my friends or
other people that I drive with to also put their phones away while
driving. If everyone were to put their phones away while driving, the
number of car accidents would reduce greatly. In conclusion, if
people were to put their phones away while they are driving, the
number of deaths due to car accidents would greatly decrease.
