I
believe the most important thing to keep young drivers driving safely
is to educate them on the consequences they could have. Such as
texting and driving can get you a $60 ticket. Although that does not
sound like a lot, it can also raise your insurance costs. If you are
texting and driving and get in an accident with another car, you
could face jail time. Even be sentenced to life in jail if the other
cars driver is killed. You are sentenced to man slater. I feel that
if young drivers know this, they will be better and safer drivers. We
could reduce the number of deaths every year driving if we just stay
off our phones. Distracted driving is one of the top causes of
vehicle fatalities. This includes phones, eating, reading, and
grooming. Before you get on your phone to send that text, think to
yourself, is it worth putting others’ lives in danger?

A
kid in my class was in a car accident over the summer. He had been
drinking and decided to drive home. However, he did not make it far
before he swerved and rolled his vehicle. Luckily, he walked away
with only a few scratches. This taught many kids at my school how
this can happen to anyone. This kid regrets his actions and will not
do it again. This wreck has costed him a lot of money. He has had to
pay his fines off and buy a new vehicle.

To become a safer driver for my own self and others on the road, I
need to eat less while driving. There are many times when I find
myself distracted by what I am trying to eat while driving. This puts
me and others in danger. I will continue to make myself and others
better drivers by participating in my schools’ SAFE program. The
SAFE program promotes wearing your seatbelt and driving safely. I
have participated in this program all four years of high school. I
believe this program helps spread awareness for safe driving.
