The
Importance of Knowing Your Impact
The
concept of driving is nothing new to our society since the model of
the first car came out in the year of 1903. However, as society
becomes more comfortable with driving, it can be seen that the number
of accidents continues to go up; as well as the deaths related to
them. That is why, more than ever, drivers need to become aware of
drivers ed. Knowing the rules and the “do’s and don’ts”
of driving is vital to safe roads. This is because it allows for
those behind the wheel to become well-versed with the rules. When one
has an opportunity to become more knowledgeable about the rules they
have to adhere to, they are then more likely to follow them if those
rules are constantly reiterated. For example, when you have a child,
you have to constantly tell them ( more than once ) to not touch the
stove because they can get hurt if they do; the same is with adults,
if you are regularly demonstrating what drivers need to know, they
are bound to implement the rules on the road more often.
Unfortunately, I’ve been in a car accident and have had many family
members that have gotten into extremely bad accidents, damaging not
only the car but their bodies as well. These accidents could have
easily been prevented if both drivers knew more of their limits and
understand their impact. Within the last three decades there seems to
be an increase in the rashness of drivers, and it is our
responsibility as the next generation to decrease the amount of
deaths related to car accidents and take back the roads. There are
many steps that one can take to be a better and safer driver, and one
of them being to become more enlightened of the statistics of
driving. One suggestion to make drivers more educated of their power
as one behind the wheel is employing a plethora of statistics that
drivers have to read in order to get or renew their license, so that
people become more mindful of the consequences of capricious driving.
It’s understood that the driving educators implement statistics
now, although it is clearly not enough to show people what happens
every day to those affected by reckless driving. If more people were
informed about the significance of being behind the wheel and the
lives they can hurt because of their recklessness, there surely would
be a dramatic shift. The drivers on the road need to feel less
entitled and well versed in driving so that they can become more
educated of the machine their using, hence leading to less deaths.
