My
First Experience
The
memory of my first experience in a car accident is still fresh in my
mind. Unfortunately, I do not recall the exact date in which it
happened unless I check with my other family members who were
involved in the car accident.
On
the date of July 6th, 2014. my mother, her coworker, two of my
cousins, and I were on our way to a ziplining event miles away from
our city. In our city, during the month of July, the weather is
usually hot so everyone wore light clothes such as t-shirts and
shorts. I was awake for the entire ride, which is why I remember the
experience so vividly. During the time I was in middle school
preparing for the 7th grade. Now that I’m in college, there are times
where I reflect back on this memory when I driving so I avoid it at
all costs.
We
were driving at the same speed of the traffic around us, which is
important to other drivers around us. While making a turn to continue
traveling on the highway, a car shot out from an entrance ramp nearly
striking the front bumper of my mother’s coworkers car. This took
my mother’s coworker by surprise, as a result we slid across two
lanes to avoid hitting the driver who nearly hit us and ended up
being smashed between a truck driver and the wall barrier. If it
wasn’t for the barrier, the car would have plummeted about 5 – 10ft
until we hit solid ground. During the process, it is possible that
the car would flip over as it travels off the side of the highway.
The only thing that was on my mind when this happened is whether the
car’s windows would shatter and puncher everyone’s skin. Luckily,
this did not happen and everyone was fine when we escaped car through
the window.
I
feel like I was meant to experience this in my life just to know what
the feeling of being in a car accident could feel like. In my
hometown, Philadelphia Pennsylvania, I drove a lot around the city in
order to make money through DoorDash and Postmates. While making
deliveries, I find myself more aware of my surroundings so that I
don’t experience another car accident. Although, there were a few
times where I “tapped” someone’s car as a result of them doing
something illegal like being parked. Overall, my first experience in
a car accident took a tremendous toll on my life and how I drive
today.
