Proper
Driving Etiquette

Over
the previous years, drivers around the world are often being killed
or injured due to the lack of precautions taken while driving.
According to the World Health Organization, approximately 1.24
million people die in car accidents annually worldwide, and accidents
are the leading cause of death among those between the ages of 15 and
29. Drivers ed is indeed important because it enforces the
necessities of why it’s important to stay alert and follow all the
laws put in place. Drivers Ed will walk you through the steps of
proper driving etiquette, give out experienced instructions, as well
as provide distraction-free types on driving on the freeway and
during inclement weather.

Reducing
the number of deaths starts with the driver’s behavior once they’ve
entered the automobile. Drivers should do everything they need to do
before they pull off from their parking spots. This includes personal
grooming, setting the GPS, etc. Drivers should not be engaged with
their phones as this will be a distraction towards their
concentration level. Many driving commercials on the radio enforce
the “no texting while driving” rule, but they also should make it
a law as well to not eat and drive as well due to the lack of
concentration. With that being said, all drivers should be focused
on nothing but the roads and checking all mirrors at all needed
times.

When
I was nine years old, I was involved in a very minor car accident. My
mom stopped at the light as instructed by the red traffic signal.
Next thing you know, BOOM! There we were. Hit from behind with a
woman in a white Mercedes Benz who was texting while driving blasting
boisterous music. The lady scrambled to get out of her car to see if
there were any dents or marks on either of the cars and apologized
multiple times to my mom. We didn’t call the police or anything
because no one was hurt. Unfortunately, my mom had to give the lady a
couple of pointers on what not to do while driving because the
accident could’ve been a lot worse. However, I was a bit
traumatized after getting in a car for about three years. I refused
to go anywhere if it wasn’t school or practice. Therefore, it is
very important to not text and drive while on the road because you
could get yourself into unnecessary and harmful accidents.

Everyone
could become a better driver by obeying all driving laws that are
provided in the driver’s handbook. I’ve noticed in the previous
years that some drivers stopped practicing proper driving etiquette
such as driving with two hands on the wheels and using signals to
notify a driver when they want to get over. Instead, drivers use only
one hand on the wheel, depending on what their mood is they’ll have
one hand at the very top of the wheel, which is known as the 12 o
clock mark or at the very bottom of the wheel, which is known as the
6 o clock mark. Instead of drivers using their signals, they’ll
just get over instead of notifying anyone, which is very dangerous.
Lastly, drivers need to start doing the speed limit, whether it’s
beneath the speed limit or staying at the given speed limit. Taking
drivers ed would make a major impact on upcoming driver’s lives as
it will reduce the number of crashes that are happening today.
