Education and Death Related to Driving
Drivers
education plays an important role in the safety of all roads for
everyone. It teaches new drivers basic driving techniques and rules
to follow on the road. In the past 10 years, highway fatalities have
stayed between 30,000-45,000 per year. That is more casualties than
the Korean War. Drivers ed makes a large impact on the number
of deaths related to driving. Instructors are constantly looking to
lower this number, especially in teens.
By
teaching new drivers how to get through dangerous situations, drivers
are less likely to get into fatal car accidents. Thus reducing the
number of deaths resulting from driving. A number of steps can be
taken to lower the number of deaths related to driving. These steps
include: keeping your phone out of sight, keeping your music at a
reasonable volume, not driving while under the influence, following
speed limit laws, and to be more aware of what is happening around
you.
I
have had a personal experience with death related to unsafe driving.
A close friend of mine who was about to be a senior captain on the
high school football team was killed in July of 2019 due to a driver
speeding through an intersection. His death was the result of
extreme speeding and reckless driving. The driver was going way over
the speed limit and passing someone near an intersection. This
accident could have been easily prevented. It all starts with
teaching basic safe driving habits.
I
have also witnessed my parents being unsafe while behind the wheel. I
have caught them both texting while driving and I am always reminding
them that they are not being a good influence for me or my siblings.
Reminding people to drive safe is just one of the many ways that can
save a life.
Driving
is a necessity that most people in the world take part in. Whether
people drive a motorcycle, scooter, SUV, Jeep, bus, or a minivan,
practicing safe driving is crucial to survival. Preventing innocent
deaths is the ultimate goal of the drivers ed system. Teaching
young people the right and wrong ways of the road are what keeps
people safe. Learning how to control your vehicle and prevent
accidents is proven to save lives. Keeping people safe. Preventing
accidents. Saving lives.
