What is the importance of drivers ed in reducing the number of
deaths as a result of driving?

It
is more common now in ages, that younger drivers tend to be the ones
who end up in more deadly crashes due to the fact they have a lack of
experience and knowledge on the subject of the road and driving.
Teaching the skills required in order to drive is a key to preventing
not only crashes, but as well as deaths. While taking driving
lessons, whether from a family member, friend, or driving school, you
are able to learn and the small simple things that many people did
not know were important. It has also been statistically proven that,
one who has received driving lessons is less likely to be in a crash
compared to one who never took a lesson of any sort.

2-
What steps can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to
driving?

On
a day to day basis, many times you are able to see drivers texting,
talking on the phone, eating, and in some cases – fixing their hair
and/or makeup on the road. These small things can become a major
incident if one is not careful enough. Anything from picking up a
phone call, or fixing your hair is a HUGE distraction to one’s self
and takes your full undivided attention away from the road even if
you do not believe it because “you were looking at the road”.
Aside from this, it is also extremely important to make sure all the
parts of your car are in tip top shape. Such as your tires, engines,
oil, etc. Most importantly, never forget to adjust your mirrors to
your preferred level to see and check all your surroundings.

3-
Have you ever had an experience of being in a car accident or have
seen your friends or family members driving irresponsibly?

In
all of my 17 years of living, I have only ever been in one car
accident. It was a rainy day and the roads were extremely slippery.
While we were driving down the street, there was a white van pulling
out of his driveway and he sat there for a minute or so. But as he
was pulling out, we were driving down that same spot. Unfortunately,
the driver did not break fast enough to the point where we had a head
on collision with this white van. Aside from that, I have been in
many people’s vehicles that I feel completely unsafe. These people
always drive too fast to the point where there were times I would
have to close my eyes so I would not see what was happening. Often, I
push my feet to the floor as if I am the driver, so I can “brake”
the car if I feel that one is driving too fast.

4-
What steps can you take to be a better and safer driver as well as
help others become safer on the road?

Steps
I would take to become a better driver is putting my phone on silent.
While I drive, I like to keep my phone on sound so that way I know if
my mom is calling me and my sister will answer it. Although I may not
be the one to answer my phone, it still causes a distraction in which
a collision may occur. As to helping others, using your signals,
braking headlights, PROPERLY doing a u-turn on those little cross
ways, can help prevent A LOT of major crashes. Many people do not use
their signals and decided to brake or turn last minute not allowing
the person behind them to have enough time to stop. Which is why
drivers should always keep a significant amount of space in between
one another. As for those turns in the medians of the road, it is
always important to go to the end of the sections so that if another
person is planning to turn the opposite way that you are, they can go
to the other end of the section to allow full vision of the oncoming
traffic.
