Blink
of an Eye

Have
you ever seen a car accident on tv? Have you ever noticed how the car
is always flying into another car at high speeds and they connect
with a loud bang and glass flies everywhere? Whether or not a car
accident is on tv or on the roads, they are both unbelievably scary.
In fact, I’ve been in one car accident and it has left me mentally
scarred. I was sitting in the backseat of my friend’s car with my
brother on our way to get our diploma from school. The car came out
of nowhere. In a blink of an eye, we were launched sideways and
spinning across the road. There was no sound. We didn’t hear the
crash, we didn’t scream. Nothing. Despite the large crowd that had
gathered and said they were drawn by the loud crash, I didn’t hear
anything. I only felt the jolt from the car being hit.

 I
was one of the lucky ones, my car accident wasn’t as horrible as
others. No one was killed, and I was able to walk away from the car
accident without a scratch. But others aren’t as lucky. Over a
million people die due to car accidents every year throughout the
world. These car accidents are sad, unnecessary, and half of them can
be avoided with drivers ed. Drivers ed gives people the
knowledge needed to drive safely on the road and to be cautious as a
pedestrian. Some people don’t even have the proper driving
education; they were taught by their parents. But no matter how good
they think their parents are, it’s always better to learn from
someone that has the proper credentials to teach other people to
drive. They can provide the correct skills and attitude needed for
the road. This is the first step needed to reduce the number of
deaths by related to driving
.
Another step is for people to stay off their phones when they are
driving. Throughout my life, I have seen thousands of people drive by
me on their phones. I’ve even seen my own mom on the phone while
she was driving. Everyone wants to believe they are great drivers and
can multi-task while driving, but no matter how good they are or what
they’re texting, texting while driving divides the driver’s
attention and decreases the time it takes them to react to what’s
happening on the road.

This
also includes me, there are some things I can do to be a better and
safer driver. Such as, studying and being completely educated in the
signs and how the road works as well as being aware of everything
that is going on around me as I am driving.
Car
accidents aren’t planned, and they certainly aren’t wanted, people
needed to have drivers ed before they get on the road, this can
save millions of lives.
