Drivers ed
is designed to prepare students for tests to obtain a driver’s
license or permit. Typically, the learner is placed in a car with the
instructor in the passenger seat, and they are instructing the
student as they drive. They are required to drive for a certain
amount of times to get the experience they need. The importance of
drivers ed in reducing the number of deaths from driving is
very effective. Often in drivers ed, they show the
beginners real life stories of young drivers who had tragic events
due to lack of proper education and knowledge. They also talk about
the dangers of driving such as drunk driving, and texting while
driving. Drivers ed provides young, unexperienced drivers
with necessary knowledge for being behind the wheel. If new drivers
are properly shown all the responsibilities by a professional, and
not just their parents who are already super nervous, they will have
a better understanding, pay attention more, and be less nervous
knowing that they are with a professional who is determined to keep
both the driver safe, as well as themselves. Beginners can take
small, easy steps to reduce the number of accidents and deaths from
driving by staying off their phone, being cautious and aware of the
stuff around them, avoiding drinking and driving, reducing speeding,
the number of people in the car at once, and the volume of music
being played. Before getting your license, being sure that you have
gotten enough practice and driving hours is so important. Being
experienced and ready to be a new driver is very significant. I have
had many experiences where the people I am in the car with that are
behind the wheel are driving very irresponsibly. They are fiddling
with their phone texting and driving, playing the music a little too
loud, speeding, and not paying as much attention as they should and
losing focus. I have also been in a car where the driver was driving
while under the influence. I was not comfortable with it, but I was
very sure to keep a close eye on their driving and on the traffic
around us. My brother had gotten in a small car accident about a year
ago, but it was very minor and it was due to making a decision he
knew he was risking to take, and it of course did not result in the
way he was intending. He ended up okay, he was just upset with
himself for making such a poor decision that he knew would probably
end up not working out. Being a better driver starts with you.
Staying aware of your surroundings on the road and paying close
attention, making sure you are following the law by driving the speed
limit and not being under the influence or having illegal substances
in the vehicle. You may not be doing the right thing on the road, but
somebody else may not. It is yours and others safety on the line.
