The
Importance of Being a Safe Driver

Being a driver in
this day and age is a privilege that also comes with many obstacles.
The number of deaths due to vehicle accidents have been on the rise.
As a license driver, having gone through my drivers ed
class, I learned a lot before getting behind the wheel. The road
test prepared me for the various roads, the type of drivers to expect
to encounter on the road, and to eliminate my inner fear of driving
alone. Drivers ed classes are a great means to bring about
awareness regarding the dangers of not being a safe driver.

Drivers ed is
so important because without it there would be an enormous amount of
untrained people driving vehicles causing more accidents. Driver
education is just that, it educates us about the rules of the road
and the importance of safety for all. The classes and the actual
hands on experience gets a person better prepared for the road. It
is up to us to implement what we learn and make the roads safe for
everyone.

Although there are
many laws in the books to help prevent or reduce deaths caused by
vehicle accidents, there is always opportunity to enforce more laws
and our own measures to reduce vehicle accidents and deaths. Cars
should be more equipped to handle a heavy impact in the event of a
vehicle accident involving another vehicle. Harsher punishment
should be enforced for those who are cited with a DUI or DWI.
Installing a breathalyzer into cars of those who have a DUI or DWI.
The driver would have to take a breathalyzer test each time they get
behind the wheel and if they fail the car will not start. This is a
rule in some states but not all. We can be safer drivers by following
the rules of the road. We can stop texting and driving, avoid
anything that would be a distraction to us while we drive. Make sure
our friends are being safe drivers while we are with them. My friend
had a habit of driving with the music very loud. When he didn’t
realize there was a fire truck speeding behind us because he couldn’t
hear the siren, it made him stop playing his music so loud.

In conclusion, we
must all do our part to implement safe driving. Our drivers ed
facilities must make sure they have all up to date information and
all the necessary tools to properly train young new drivers. Drive
with the mindset that you are driving for you and the drivers around
you, stop texting and driving, and make sure our family and friends
use and shares these values to make everyone safe on the road. Be it
an experienced driver or a first-time driver, we must educate
ourselves to avoid the dangers on the road.
