Driver
education is very important for all drivers. Being educated on the
rules of the road, and following them, helps to increase the safety
of you and your loved ones. Knowing simple laws like the right of
way, school zone speed limits, and road signs can prevent little
fender benders and even deaths of other drivers. One very important
law that has been addressed in Illinois multiple times recently is
moving over for emergency vehicles. There has been more than one
death of a police officer due to people not moving over; these deaths
could have been prevented if people knew the rules. Distracted
driving is very common, especially now with cellphones in the mix.
If people followed the law and stayed off their phones there would be
less lost lives. Many of my friends and family get on their phones
while driving but I never do; checking a Snapchat is not worth
someone’s life. There have been more deaths due to driving than
combat deaths of five wars combined. That stat should be down a lot
more and a way to enforce the law is to have a required driver
education class every five years so that all drivers can be reminded
of the rules. I also think that guest speakers that have experienced
the hardships of a wreck should come to speak to classes. This helps
people to see the real effect not following the law can have. I hope
that people become more educated on the rules of the road so that I
never have to feel the effect of losing someone due to reckless
driving.
