As we get more and
more into the electronic age, it is more tempting to be on your
cellphone when you drive. This is one of the key components to many
deaths caused by car accidents. It is important to understand the
importance of safe driving and to limit the risk of any more deaths
or injuries caused by reckless driving. One simple way to reduce risk
of reckless driving is putting down the cell phone! Weird concept I
know, but your phone can wait. You’d much rather see the person
that you are talking to one more like, than them suffering over your
loss. I have unfortunately been a victim of reckless driving. On my
sixteenth birthday, my boyfriend was driving us to go get dinner when
he looked at his phone for a split second, and in that split second
both of our lives changed. I was metaflighted to the hospital where
they did emergency surgery on my neck. I broke my c2 vertebrae and
was unable to feel my legs for about two days. I stayed in the ICU
for seven days and was then sent to a rehabilitation center to
relearn how to walk and live my life with my disabilities. I was
eventually able to walk and I am currently a student at Oklahoma
State University. Many people with my type of injury are unable to
move so I am truly blessed. This is why driving education is so
important to me. One second can change your life forever. Just wait,
put the phone down.
