The
Importance of Safe Driving

Maintaining
control of a vehicle is a massive responsibility for all drivers on
the road.

Drivers
are not only responsible for their own safety, but the safety of all
those on the road around them; a single mistake can result in serious
injuries or death for everyone involved. It is crucial that drivers
are properly educated about their responsibilities when operating a
vehicle.

Mandatory
drivers ed courses are a significant method for reducing the
number of vehicle-related deaths. Drivers will have a thorough
understanding of the implications of their actions, and will be able
to recognize signs of danger on the road. In this manner, drivers
will be more aware of mistakes being made, with enough forewarning to
make corrections and avoid a collision.

An
additional step in reducing the number of vehicular deaths would be
to instigate a social awareness movement, emphasizing the impacts of
distracted driving for others on the road, as well as for families.
It is a common psychological practice that a driver will not consider
the impacts that their actions can have towards others. They may be
aware that they could injure themselves in a crash, but do not
consider that, assuming they survive, they may have to live with the
guilt of taking someone’s life, or they may become a burden on
their family as a result of their own injuries.

Though
I have never had a personal experience with unsafe driving, as I and
my family are very observant drivers, I have seen many instances of
distracted and reckless driving in the parking lot of my school. Each
day, I witness my peers driving while using their cell phones, not
paying attention to the road, and driving too fast. While I hope that
there will not be any serious collisions, I do find the circumstances
rather likely for one to occur.

I
hope that I will be able to encourage those around me to become safe
drivers by using my driving methods as an example. I refuse to use my
cell phone while driving, I pay attention to my surroundings, and am
prepared in the event of a sudden emergency. I understand the
consequences of poor driving, both to myself and to those around me,
and I hope to be able to reiterate those concerns to anyone I drive
with.
