Importance
of Driving Safely
Driving
around is something that happens everyday at anytime. This is why it
is so important to be safe. Driving on public roads is something that
should be taken seriously and not as a joke. This is why it is
important to take drivers ed to know all the risk and rules driving
can have. It is our job as drivers to be aware and cautious of what
we’re doing anytime we are in the vehicle.
There
are many steps that drivers can take to avoid to reduce the number of
deaths related to driving. For example we can raise the age limit on
driving permits to age 18. This is due to the fact that many kids
driving a 16 are irresponsible and not mature enough to be driving at
that age. A recent study by The New York Times States, “ Motor
vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for 16- to
20-year-olds, with about 5,500 teenage drivers or passengers dying
each year. In addition, about 450,000 teenagers are injured, 27,000
of them requiring hospitalization, the American Academy of Pediatrics
reported in the December issue of its journal, Pediatrics.” This
shows that many teens are dying each year in a car accident due to
driving irresponsibly in public roads. If we can raise the age limit
just by two years, we can save thousands of lives and protect our
loved ones.
In
my life I have experienced a terrible collision in which my friend
was driving intoxicated and going above the speed limit. Ultimately
he ended up scratching a car due to him swerving. As soon as that
happened I got off the car and ordered an Uber home and my friend
came with me. The very next morning his dad went to go pick up the
car where it was located and he took drove it home. I was very
terrified and I couldn’t believe what was going on. This incident
changed my perspective on driving because it made me realize that
driving is no joke and it’s something that should be taken very
seriously. Luckily none of us were injured in the accident and we
both made it home safely.
To
become a better and safer driver I will make sure I am patient went
on the road and never drive intoxicated. If ever intoxicated I will
make sure to take an Uber home never drive on public roads. While
driving anything can happen so it’s better to be safe than to risk
dying or putting another civilian at risk. Overall us as drivers we
can reduce many accidents just by being more aware of our
surroundings. Just by doing this we won’t be driving ourselves into
our own death.
