According
to Road Safety Facts nearly 1.25 million
people
die
 in
road crashes each year, on average 3,287
deaths a
day. An additional 20-50 million are injured or disabled. More than
half of all road
traffic
deaths
 occur
among young adults ages 15-44. This is vital information because
using this information and telling people about it opens people’s
eyes to the reality of unsafe driving. An abundant amount of people
die from unsafe driving which is something that can be avoided if we
all drive the way we are supposed to, which includes following the
law, putting down phones, and eliminating distractions. Driver
education courses are very helpful in teaching teenagers how to drive
by following the law and avoiding crashes. Especially because after
the course they require you to take a test.

There
are many steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths, that
includes eliminating distractions which are turning around in the car
to talk with friends, texting, and simply not paying attention to the
road. Not only do accidents happen with someone not paying attention
but people not making sure that their car is safe to drive and
driving it recklessly, for example, if a person speeds too much or
brakes too fast all are causes for a crash. My family always drives
responsibly, but there was one time in sixth grade when my mom got
into an accident because she was telling my brother to put on his
seatbelt, and she had turned around to tell him and a car was driving
really fast and hit her. Thankfully everyone was okay, and nobody was
hurt.

The
steps I can take to become a safer driver is not be distracted and
drive according to the law. As a teenager, driving with friends can
be distracting but it is always important to drive safe because not
only are you responsible for the other car but for the people in your
car as well. My dad always tells me when I go out with friends and I
am driving that I am responsible for anything that happens to them
and that I always need to drive safe. The best thing I can do to
hopefully help others is to pass along the message and make sure
everyone I know is driving in a responsible way and not create
distractions.
