The importance of
drivers ed within our youth is crucial. In America, an average
of 34,000 people die as a result of car crashes. How can we start
teaching our youth how to be a responsible driver as well as a
cautious driver that may prevent accidents or serious problems? The
steps I feel need to be taken is drivers ed, is that the youth
needs to know the truth. Everyone thinks that “it won’t happen to
me” until it happens to them and unfortunately, no one is safe from
car accidents. Many great citizens within my city have lost their
life due to horrible car accidents and it is very unfortunate that
substances have been the main factor within these deadly car
accidents. To be a safe and responsible driver drinking or being
under the influence of any drug is just irresponsible. Not only when
you drive under the influence you are putting others in danger but
yourself as well! Every day almost 30 people die due to drunk driving
which is around one person every 48 minutes. Drunk driving claims
close to 10,000 lives a year and these deaths and damage contribute
to about $44 billion dollars in damage. The only way to be a safer
driver on the road is to be aware that there are people that do drive
under the influence everyday and unfortunately many do not get
caught. Do not depend on other drivers to see you, Driving aware that
the person next to you may not see you or may be under the influence
is crucial to driving as a cautious driver and keeping you and others
safe. Additionally, always make sure your car is up to date with
maintenance like; oil changes, tire pressure checks and motor checks
often. Always be aware of your surroundings, make sure you are
analyzing the road in front of you including the side of the road due
to animals or oncoming cars. Keep your speed down! Instead of
speeding Plan beforehand so you can get to your destination on time
instead of speeding and putting you and others at risk as well as
risking an expensive car ticket. Always have an escape route, what if
a car crosses the line and almost hits you? What will you do? Always
think about where you can go and how you can avoid these unsafe
situations to save a lot of future problems. Also, keep in mind what
risk can develop if you are driving or not paying attention. Always
think about the people around you and understand that they don’t
know where you’re going or what your next driving move will be. To
add to that, cut out all potential distractions that may put you at
risk like for example eating and driving in not a good idea as well
as texting and driving. Be responsible when driving, think about the
other people around you and be considerate.
