Will You Shoulder Your Responsibility?

An event that turned a person’s life
upside down. An accident that could have been prevented. Or, maybe
for some,
something
that would never happen to me
.
Car accidents have been defined in many different ways, whether it be
with or without concern. However, today, the facts cannot be ignored:
car accidents can happen to anyone and become an event that pulls the
carpet right out from under us.

Even will this, you know what’s funny?
I’ve heard that so many people find learning to drive as one of two
things: either a nuisance or something that’s completely
overwhelming. In reality, learning to drive is one of the most
important parts of a person’s driving career. It’s where we are
able to fully understand the responsibilities that we will shoulder
as the person who is able to influence the safety of others. And I
don’t know about you, but that seems like a pretty big
responsibility. Not to be dramatic, but our choices regarding driving
could determine life or death. And maybe even whether or not a person
is able to see their family again.

Keeping this in mind, we must all come to
terms with the obligation we are tied to. To reduce the number of
people seriously injured or killed in a car accident, become the one
who is able to provide safety to others on the street. Become the
person who is able to drive safely and influence others to do so as
well. Become the one who takes a stand against the trend. And, as my
sister says, remember your accidents affect others too.

No matter one may think of reckless
driving, it holds true that it is every driver’s responsibility to
drive safely. From the moment that we take a seat behind the driving
wheel, we are taking on this responsibility and are to consider it at
all times and not just when we want to. I know that this
responsibility may be hard to keep in mind, especially with influence
from others, but your choice may be the choice that saves someone’s
life. So, let me ask you— will you shoulder your responsibility?
