Driving
is an everyday activity that millions of individual around the world
take part in. It provides us with an easy and convenient mode of
transportation to a place we desire to go to. Even though many
individuals know how to drive, they often are not aware of the laws
and regulations that are part in place to help ensure that accidents
are kept to a minimum. Becoming educated and aware of the laws and
regulations of driving can help prevent accidents and reduce the
number of deaths of innocent people who may have been caught up in
the incidents.
In
order to reduce the number of deaths related to driving, stricter
laws and regulations need to be established. Nowadays, the biggest
distraction for drivers is the smartphone. Drivers can become too
confident in their driving ability and think they can be able to
answer a text message while driving 40 MPH. In reality, they are
putting every single driver around them in danger and all it takes is
one second for an accident and possibility fatalities to occur. Laws
need to be implemented with heavy fines to encourage drivers that
using a smartphone while driving is not the greatest idea. Also I
believe that more cameras should be implemented in areas that contain
a high traffic flow to prevent the speedy drivers from trying to
cross an intersection before the red light. Reducing the number of
distracted and speedy drivers can help protect everyone from
accidents.
I
personally have only ever been in one accident. I was a baby but I
became informed of what happened from my parents and family members
who were in the accident also. We were returning from a family
members birthday party and we were at an intersection waiting to
turn. The light was turning red and the cars were stopping so my dad
decided it was safe to turn. Out of nowhere a driver thought that he
could of crossed the intersection in time so he decided to cross
while we were turning. He ended up crashing into the back of our car
at 50 MPH and even caused us to flip over. Nearby bystanders were
able to pull us out from the wreckage and if it wasn’t for my mom
who was holding me in her arms in the backseat I would of not
survived. Luckily there were no fatalities and I was too young to
remember but learning about it made me anxious and uneasy.
Whenever
a friend uses their phone while driving, i’ll become nervous and
simply offer to drive instead to prevent any distractions. Other
times after a party, I’ll call an uber for any friends that might of
became intoxicated to prevent them from drunk driving. I recommend
that others to take action into their own hands and inform others of
the dangers of distracted driving to prevent their friends or family
from appearing on the news about a car crash incident that they are
involved in.
