The
Crash

Four
days after I got my license I crashed into the back of a car on a
highway exit. It can not be stressed enough how important drivers
education is. I was lucky that I wasn’t hurt and no one else was
hurt. The crash only left a little bit of damage. I was coming off of
a highway exit and I looked down at my phone for a second and when I
looked back up it was too late. By the time I had stepped on the
breaks I had already hit the back of the brand new Mercedes Benz
truck. The truck had temporary plates and looked as though it had
came right from the dealership. I had made a huge mistake. I should
have never looked down at my phone. Lots of commercials stress the
risks of texting and driving and being on the phone but I never
thought a simple glance down would cause such a thing. In order to
reduce the number of deaths related to driving people have to stop
using their phones. They also must discontinue driving drowsy or
under the influence. These three things are the main causes of
driving related deaths. After my accident I made sure that: I
text/called whomever before I began driving, pull over if I need to
call or text someone and I always have an idea of where I am going.
Those are things that I do personally but in regard to my family and
friends I suggest the same things. Whenever they are driving and I’m
in the car and they take out their phone I remind them that all it
takes is one second for an accident to happen. Drivers ed is
absolutely imperative if the rate of driving related deaths is going
to go down. The text can always wait and if not, it doesn’t hurt to
pull over.
