“Don’t
worry dad, I promise to be safe,” Said Danny, looking into his dads
eyes with promise. “Okay son,” The dad replied as he threw the
keys of a brand new car to Danny. “Please son, be wary of the road,
I know this is an exciting time for you, but you now have the
responsibility of the road on your back.” Danny smiled before
saying “Dad I promise I ‘wheel’ be safe on the road.” Dad
smiled before giving out a robust, yet corny laugh. “Would you like
to drive us for some food son?” The dad questioned, while patting
his stomach, “I may be old, but I have the appetite of a child!”
Dad let out yet another laugh, and the two piled in to the brand new
car.
Danny
began checking his surroundings, making sure there was nobody around.
He proceeded to gently pullout of the garage, staying very alert
about his speed backing up. After he had managed to successfully get
the vehicle on the road, he turned to his dad and inquired about
where to eat. “Lets go to plateau” The dad stated, “I heard
that the prices are high, and the food is flat.” Letting out yet
another chuckle to his own joke, but Danny was embarrassed, for he
had never thought his dad could make such lame jokes. “Plateau it
is.” Danny responded trying to ignore that joke, and the two
proceeded to drive.
While
driving, Danny made sure to go two under the speed limit, even though
cars would constantly honk at him, and speed around him. “Don’t
worry about that son,” the dad began, “In order to be a safe
driver, you have to be the example.”Danny paid this no mind, as he
was focused on the road. “we’ll be taking the next exit son,”
Dad said, prompting Danny to turn on his turn signal in order to get
into the right lane. Danny made sure to slow down before turning down
into the exit, just as his dad taught him. “Good job son,” Dad
said as they pulled up to the last light before arriving to their
destination. Danny looked over at his dad and let loose a wholesome
smile, he was truly happy that he could share this experience with
his father.
“Do
you see the car beside me?” The dad inquired, gesturing over to a
lemon colored truck. “Yea dad, what about it?” Danny was
genuinely curious as to why his dad had pointed over to this car,
then it clicked: This was the driver that had rudely sped in front of
him. “Do you recognize him?” Dad asked, “Yes,” Danny replied
making a sour face, “I cant believe we caught up to him.” Danny
said nonchalantly. Dad let out a chuckle before saying “He did all
that, just for us to end up in the same spot eh?” Danny let out a
small chuckle, and as he did the light turned green, prompting the
lemon colored truck to speed off, disobeying the speed limit. Danny
and his father managed to pull into the parking lot of plateau. They
enjoyed their time in the restaurant talking over burgers and
embarrassing photos of Danny as a child until the sun set.
“Lets
head home,” Dad stated as they paid the tab, making sure to thank
the waitress for the amazing service they received. As Danny began to
safely drive back home, he spotted a lemon colored car, crashed on
the side of the road. “See?” Dad said, “This is why we drive
safely son.” Danny nodded, and proceeded.
