The Importance of Driving Importance
For most teenagers 16 to 21, driving is the pinnacle of growing up into adulthood. Driving allows teens to have a good amount of freedom when it comes to meeting with friends and going out and that is something that teens find really important when it comes to driving, hanging out with friends. Unfortunately, there are a number of teenagers nowadays that are so focused on the destination instead of the journey that they don’t take any information on driving seriously and have to either cheat on questions or steal cars just to get a chance of driving. The importance of driving education in reducing the number of deaths from driving is criminally underrated, as learning steps to reduce the chances of an accident, personal experience, and learning from my mistakes when driving so I can drive safely for everyone on the road can really impact the lives of not only me but the fellow drivers on the road.
There are a lot of benefits of driving education that teens don’t really know about. Things such as learning the key safety details on becoming a great drivers, learn about the consequences of road rage, if a student decides to take a driving course they will be able to get one-on-one teaching from different people (i.e. Drivers Ed, Parents, High School Coaches, etc.), and the students would have a great knowledge for the written and driver’s exam. Driving education is seriously important for anyone in any age group and required when it comes to having the chance to use a motor vehicle as not only is driving serious but it is also deadly, as the age group who die the most in car crashes are adults and coming-of-age teens. Studies show that the age group of people who are involved in fatal car crashes in Texas are ages 25 to 34, showing that, although inexperienced, teenage drivers are not the deadliest drivers — drivers in their 30s are more responsible for more fatal crashes than any other age group, with the total number being 6,548. Car crashes should never be taken lightly, as they are responsible for a stir of problems such as fender benders, road rage, tickets given to you by police, jail or even in more severe cases prison time, serious injuries, and of course, death.
These consequences are all very true, as a personal experience of mine led to some injuries that could’ve been worse. Leaving with my family with two different cars to go to Chicago for a checkup on a very ill family member — a seemingly regular drive turned into sheer panic when a tire from a car my Aunts and Cousins were driving blew out and turned off the road and down a short hill. Thankfully the only injury was shock a mini-concussion, we found out the the car was overloaded with weight and caused the back tire to blow out, this would stick with me for the rest of my life. At a very young age of 11 I was shown personally the dangers of driving as they can range from anything. Being in a driving class also taught me more about this with crashes ranging up to anything like being reckless driving, bad oil, weight, and many more. Seeing and remembering this also taught me that learning about these accidents now could also help me in the future when it’s my turn to drive.
I took my driving course online where I would learn by reading about the pros and cons of driving and what I need to do when driving like turn on my turn signal when merging, turning, or switching lanes, stopping at a stop sign and looking left and right when doing so, yielding, parallel parking and so many more. That doesn’t mean I didn’t make mistakes when driving, there would be times where I would drive below the speed limit, forget to turn my signal lights on when turning, and remembering to check my blind spot. There are other things that I wasn’t really good with at first, like getting on the interstate, and driving faster than normal along with driving around eighteen-wheelers. The most difficult to learn out of everything was parallel parking, trying to do all the methods to make a perfect parking while not trying to hit the cars in front and behind me was a trick that took me a while to master.
As a person who has had one-on-one experience with driving, I feel like I have a good amount of knowledge thanks to driving classes ranging from how I should drive during certain weather events to how to drive right to ensure the safety of the passengers, the pedestrian, and myself. I hope some people could understand that even though I may feel that way, there is still much more that I need to learn, but the thing about learning is you make mistakes and you learn from them, as I said before it’s not just about the destination itself, but the journey along the ride.
