Drink OR drive not drink AND drive

We like to assume people behind the wheel have a driver’s education. They completed all the tests, they have their license, but is this just what we tell ourselves so we feel safer? 65.2% of young Americans drive without a license. 24 percent of those young drivers are more likely to get into a fatal car accident. I believe driver’s education should not just be a chore to do in order to get a license, It should engage people and be made more rigorous in order to show the seriousness of driving “metal death traps” that can kill or injure people. Studies suggest it is necessary to change the content of driving education and the way it is presented in order to reduce traffic crashes, injuries, and/or deaths on the road. To reduce the deaths of driving I think the third party sale of cars should be more monitored so cars are not sold to people without licenses or with license restrictions. I also believe it should be harder to possess a license and there should be hands-on courses for everyone, although it is more time consuming it is better than being dead or having killed someone. It is not possible to force people to care but it is possible to push harder driving education, those who do not care or don’t care enough will most likely not be able to complete them. Furthermore, people should be held more accountable for speeding as well as drinking and driving. The leading cause of deaths on the road is driving too fast. Rushing or laziness should not be an option when dealing with such dangerous things like cars, it is never worth a life. Quite tendentiously I also believe parents should be held accountable for giving their children cars or access to cars who are too young and inexperienced. I myself have first hand experience with this as my sister was just recently given a car. She is 18 and she hardly passed to get her license, the driving instructor was to be described as laid back and chill on the grading. She has to take me to school every morning as well as pick me up, help around the house, and sometimes take me to work. It has only been a couple of months but there have been numerous close calls of accidents both with other cars and inanimate objects. There is hardly a time she doesn’t go over the speed limit when driving and is rather irresponsible when it comes to driving. She does not take it seriously nor does she care to. Many times I have been close to a fatal accident and she continues on with her behavior. She also uses it to do rather reckless activities with her friends. Another thing I have experienced is drunk driving along with texting and driving. My biological mom, to a great extent, is a text and driver. As harmless as it sounds I fear for my safety the times I go with her. I feel as though it is really dangerous and completely irresponsible to do this with her children in the car. I tell her as much as I can that she should not be doing that and it is not safe but she does not seem to take me or my safety into consideration. There have been occasions when she has swerved or been close to an accident that would not have happened if she was not texting or even facetiming on the wheel. Regarding my experience with drunk driving. My step dad and our family had just been at a home where there were drinks between my mom and my step dad. They collectively decided we should go out and drive around Austin, I did not feel safe with this decision and did not want to participate but I had no real say so I got into the truck with my step dad and his kids. As we were driving around Austin and looking at the sights there was music speeding and loud music playing. Not only did I feel overstimulated but I didn’t feel right. I felt like it was very wrong and we could have gotten hurt or pulled over. In order to be a safe driver I will do my part to speak out against reckless and unsafe driving as well as practice what I am preaching. This includes no texting while driving, absolutely no drinking while driving, practicing driving skills as well as being responsible, and having the proper precautions at all times.
