Driver Education
Having proper driving education is an important part of road safety. Driving education can help reduce the amount of people texting while driving, driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, and etc. So many people have lost their loved ones to terrible accidents on the roads. The amount of people who have been injured or have died due to any of the examples I have given is astronomical! By giving driving education, we can reduce the number of deaths and injuries. The steps to take in reducing deaths in driving is to first teach the younger generation on the importance on driving safely and how deaths and accidents happen while driving. By teaching the newer generation on road safety such as texting while driving, speeding, or driving while intoxicated. These three examples caused the most accidents with the newer generation. By doing this, we can hopefully prepare them in the future to be better drivers and to reduce the number of deaths. The next step is to provide more safety on the roads such as speed bumps in parking lots to reduce speeding, adding rails to busy roads, sharp corners, curved roads, and hills. They may not prevent accidents but they can help reduce the damage to the vehicle and to the person driving. They may even save a life. Having more cops patrolling will also help reduce the number of accidents/ deaths on the roads. This can also help get people who are speeding or intoxicated out of the roads which can prevent deaths. The last step I would recommend is sending people who already have their license every couple of years a written driving test to help test their knowledge on road safety, road signs and signals, and driving etiquette. This can be a good refresher to some people, but this can also get people who shouldn’t be driving, out of the roads. They can retake an online driving course lesson to help regain their license back. I believe this is a good idea because it will get drivers to remember to drive more cautiously and to get bad drivers or drivers that need more education, out of the roads with a chance to earn the license back. From my personal experience, I have never been in an accident but I have seen people drive recklessly. When my father was driving on the interstate, he started speeding way above the speed limit in the 90’s. It scared me how fast we were passing cars. I felt in the back of my head that one wrong move from my dad and, I could die. I tried to focus on something else until we were at our destination. I would learn far back in my seat in case we got into a reck. It terrified me that there were no police around. I would have nightmares that when he was driving, he would always put us in danger. I never liked driving with my dad after that day. In fear of causing an accident on the road, I take a very cautious driving approach. I make sure to put my phone in my purse and to leave it in the back seat. That way, I would never be tempted to text while drive. I also go a little bit below the speed limit. That way I won’t ever be getting a ticket for speeding and if something where to happen like a car wreck or something on the road, I can easily stop of dodge. When driving, blind spots seem to be a big problem with car accidents, so I always make sure to look in my blind spots before going into another lane. To help other people while driving, I’m that friend the friend that will stay sober so that I can take them home. That way they can get home safely and there won’t be any accidents on the road. I also make sure that my mom won’t be on her phone while driving. While she’s driving, I offer to text people on her behalf. That way she can focus on the road and still talk to her colleagues from work. Driving is a part of everyone’s lives. In some point of our lives, we have at least been in a vehicle, whether we are driving or just catching a ride. It’s important to provide the necessary education and tools to help prevent deaths due to negligence of a driver. By providing people with a better driving education, we can help prevent accidents and deaths.
