The
importance of drivers ed in reducing the number of vehicular
accidents and deaths is a matter of life or death. The idea that
people are being killed in vehicular accidents just by looking at the
phone or either texting for a few seconds should be enough of a
reason to not do it. But still to some surprise, people still do it
because they don’t know the danger, they are causing to themselves
and everyone around them. Steps that can be taken to mitigate the
number of deaths related to vehicular accidents are plenty. The most
obvious steps are to just put down the phone and focus on the road,
while that may be possible for some people, some could have trouble
doing so since they have become so attached to having to check
constantly. If that is the case, then hide the phone and check only
before and after driving. Another step people can take to reduce
driving fatalities is to learn to be patient. Speeding is one of the
most common causes of deaths in car accidents and it can be easily
preventable by being aware of the time, your surroundings, and by
just being patient. If the person in front of you is driving too slow
for your tastes and there is no way to pass without breaking the law
by speeding, don’t do it. Fortunately for me, I have not been in any
accident myself and I plan to keep it that way, but my family has had
their share of being in car accidents and driving irresponsibly. I’ve
been in the car when a family got ticketed for speeding, my brother
pulled over for speeding, which before the cop even caught him, I
told him to “slow down.” So some steps that I could take to
be a better driver for myself is to just get more comfortable behind
the wheel and to always be aware of my surroundings because I don’t
know what could happen in the blink of an eye, since I am a fairly
new driver. What I can do to help other people become better,
responsible drivers is to be a good passenger and always watch what
they are doing.
