It’s not worth it

Imagine you’re texting your friend as he makes his way home from
work. You could just be asking him a simple question as to if he’s
playing a game such as Fortnite with you tonight. It may take him a
few seconds to reply with a simple “sure dude,” but that’s all
it takes for tragedy. So many people are guilty of texting while
driving, and they all have this “not me” mentality when
confronted by the thought of accidents involved in this activity, but
as we see far too often, it’s possible. Therefore, it’s so
important to really discuss, not just a simple “don’t forget your
seatbelt” or “No texting while driving,” but an actual
discussion about the statistics of drivers who have been in accidents
where seat belts played a prominent role in their well-being, and the
facts about how easy it is to become distracted by technology while
driving. Another major factor in reducing accidents while driving is
to begin presenting facts about how dangerous it is to go well above
the speed limit earlier to kids. When a teenager first gets a car,
they’re amazed by how fast they can go and they may try to impress
their friends by driving way too fast, which could potentially result
in disaster.

There are numerous solutions that would reduce auto-accidents.
Becoming active in the community by hanging up posters, having
conferences, putting together information in newspapers, and just
simply talking to others about the dangers of texting and driving
would greatly disperse awareness. We could also look towards
technology as many apps could implement a system that would detect
when you’re in a vehicle and simply not let you use that specific
app. This would be very effective if all the main social media apps
such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter all implemented
this solution.

I have been in two accidents in my life although I don’t remember
them very well as I was quite young. One of these accidents had a
great impact on my back and it hasn’t been the same since then.
Neither of these incidents was due to distracted driving but they
taught me the great importance of always wearing a seatbelt, as it
may save your life.

Just take the simple precautions such as wearing a seat belt, always
putting your seatbelt on before you begin driving, always use both
hands, stay focused, and forget about social media. I know it can be
very tempting to text someone back while driving but just think about
how that person would feel if that single text were to cost you your
life. When you get the urge to text and drive, think about all the
loved ones that would be so lost without you in their lives. If you
get a text while driving, don’t collapse to temptation, wait until
you get out of your car, it’s not worth it.
