As we develop into teenagers what everyone wants to do is learn
to drive. Learning to drive is, in a way, a rite of passage that
everyone goes through in their adolescent years. Although teenagers
learning to drive brings some problems into the light. As teenagers
are excited in learning how to drive and driving on their own, they
tend to disregard everything they are being taught and was taught.
Which is why drivers ed is so critically important. With
drivers ed it implements the safety of driving into the new
driver’s. Also, teenagers tend to think everything parents say is an
exaggeration, so if we hear the same thing our parents are remarking
from a drivers ed teacher, we tend to believe it a little bit
more. As a result, deaths and casualties will reduce as teenagers
learn what they need to do to be safe and keep others safe on the
road.

With teenagers in this day and age social media and electronics
is a very important factor in why beginner drivers have as many
accidents as they do. Everyone is trying to take Snapchat videos with
them “jamming out” in the car to the radio while they are
driving, or posting Instagram photos to show off. We must let these
teenagers know, although they have already been advised a thousand
times by their parents, that they desperately need to keep off of
their cell phones behind the wheel. Innocent families have been hurt
or even killed because of young drivers being reckless on the road
because of their cell phone.

I have been lucky enough to never have been involved in a car
accident, but I know quite a few people who have been significantly
injured because of reckless driving. Reckless driving is a very
perilous thing and many people do not realize have risky it
undoubtedly is. They think that looking at their cell phone for just
a split second couldn’t hurt a fly, but they have been very
mistaken. If you take your eyes off the road for even a second, a
number of things could happen. Most of which involve the possibility
of someone becoming injured or even killed.

As a teenager myself, I understand I can have an extremely big
impact on others around me. Teenagers all look to each other for
advice, because we think we possess all of the answers. We don’t,
but I know that if I know how to be safe on the road I can help
others who come to me to learn the rules of the road. I know that
sometimes kids think they know it all and think they do not have to
listen to adults. This is where other teenagers who know how to be
safe while driving comes in handy. I want to aid others in being
safe. I can do that by being safe myself on the road and can also
help others who do not know how to be safe while driving.
