Me When You Get Home
Thirty hours. The
amount of classroom time needed to pass a drivers ed course.
The dreaded yet absolutely necessary two-hour sessions inside a
classroom with a dozen other teenagers eagerly waiting for the
freedom that comes with a driver’s license. This freedom, however,
can turn deadly when used without the right knowledge, the knowledge
that only comes from taking a drivers ed course. The
information that is given and the techniques taught are vital in
making sure that every driver on the road is informed and confident
with their driving ability. These courses are the foundation for
every driver in the world Drivers ed courses have been made
mandatory in all states in order for teens to get their licenses.
This has helped in making sure that teen drivers are equipped with
the right knowledge when driving on the road. While the courses may
not be entertaining they discuss in detail all the aspects of
driving. They help the student to understand the rules and
regulations of the road to make sure that drivers are aware of the
role they play in traffic.
I have had personal
experiences with the impact that car accidents can have. At the
beginning of my ninth grade year, my friend and I were involved with
an accident with a small pickup truck. No one was seriously harmed
yet the shift in my friend’s confidence behind the wheel was drastic.
His driving made him prone to more possible accidents. I have seen
what distracted driving can lead to and I have seen how quickly
things can go wrong. It is vital that the number of accidents is
reduced in our country as these events can tear families apart and
leave those involved affected for life. 90% of accidents are
avoidable and if drivers can rid themselves of distractions while
driving they are much better prepared for the different situations
they could face on the road. While I drive I make sure to silence my
cellphone and keep the music or radio to an appropriate volume. This
allows me to keeep focus for the entirety of my drive. When drivers
lose focus they are more prone to make mistakes that can result in
serious injurys or even death. Nothing is important enough for you to
take your eyes off the road. According to a report done by the
National Safety Council, cell phones caused 1.5 million car accidents
in 2018. These are 1.5 million accidents that should never occur.
Passengers also serve a vital role in keeping the roads safe.
Distracting the driver is a large contributor to the number of
accidents that happen every year. Your role as a passenger is to help
the driver keep focus so that you can both reach your destination
safely.
The main takeaway
from this essay is that drivers ed is a necessity for any
person thinking of getting behind the wheel. It helps to create
smoother situations on the road and to keep people out of the
hospital.
