The
Attraction to Distraction

Drivers
education is important because it maintains order and keeps the
majority on the “same page” when it comes to driving. Therefore
whenever someone doesn’t have this education they have a higher risk
of driving dangerously and putting lives at risk. To reduce the
number of deaths related to driving, us as a society, we must rely on
each other to remind one another to not drive distracted or under the
influence. The law does not know and can’t punish everyone who puts
others in danger because of their driving, thus we have to help each
other stay focused and law abiding drivers. I also think that
cellular companies should add software to cell phones that can detect
when someone is driving and lock the phone so that the driver can’t
access it while driving; only when the car is parked can the driver
use their phone so that distracted driving i reduced.

June
23, 2019. The day I can never forget as it was the day me and my
mother got into a terrible accident. My mother and I went to go pick
up my sister’s car from my father’s house. Once we got into the
car, we headed back home. As we approached a four way intersection
with our greenlight, we would unexpectedly experience an event that
was a tragedy and a miracle. At approximately nine pm, my mother
makes a left turn no faster than 10 mph. While my mother is
attempting to complete her given turn, a white camaro runs their red
light at 30 mph at crashes right into the front drivers side. There
was nothing we could do; this event was inevitable. Surely I thought
we were going to die. Statistically there is no way passengers would
survive that crash. Yet, here me and my mother are, not broken, bent,
and barely scratched up. That day we were able to walk away from that
horrific event and that sure is a miracle I thank the universe for
everyday.

As
I am learning to drive and will soon be a new driver on the road,
that car accident has greatly impacted how I think about driving.
Because I have experienced distracted/ under the influence driving
second handedly, I myself will not drive distracted by my phone or
anything else and I will certainly not drive under the influence. To
ensure my safety and the safety of others, even when im not driving,
I will remind my peers to keep their eyes on the road and abide all
the traffic roads. If I know someone who is going to be taking
anything that impairs your driving, I will remind them to not get on
the road if they don’t have anyone to drive them, perhaps tell them
to call a driving service to take them home. This way they won’t
put their life and others in danger.
