Tips on Driver’s Safety by Britney B
I
have been in 3 car accidents in my entire 18 years of life. All of
them were with my mother in the driver’s seat, yet I remember one,
very traumatic night.
It
was dark and it was late, I remember that I had school the next day
considering I was doing homework. We were driving home and when, on
the highway, my mother starts falling asleep. I constantly wake her
up, telling her that she’s falling asleep and constantly, she snaps
at me, tells me that she’s not falling asleep and she’s perfectly
fine. Well, tell that to the totaled car. She fell asleep behind the
wheel, and crashed the car into a tree. I remember my head hurting
from the impact with the airbag.
My
mother has driven irresponsibly many, many times. The steps I can
take to help myself become a better and safer driver is put all
distractions away – which I always do – phone, purse, anything else,
in the back seat. I always buckle up. I never have the radio on. When
you’re a passenger, you can help those distractions not be so
distracting. Hold the driver’s phone, make sure the driver is awake
and alert, keep the radio off. Car crashes and deaths have been
caused by distractions – texting and driving, mostly, but it’s all
a distraction.
I
learned many things in drivers ed. I learned the fees for
different offenses, I learned how to park on a hill (though, not
physically, we were told where the wheels should go and all). Another
benefit of going to drivers ed is your car insurance is
discounted, well, many car insurances have discounts. If we make
drivers ed a necessary class, maybe there will be more
people who are alert on how to drive on the road, carefully.
