It
Can Wait!

There
is nothing more precious than your life and the lives of others. And
there is no quicker way to destroy lives than distracted driving. The
main focus of most safe driving campagnes is usually on young drivers
and texting while driving. However, there are so many ways that
drivers of all ages allow themselves to be distracted.

My
mom tells me every time I get into a vehicle, driving or not, that I
have to put on my seatbelt. That is rule number one. The second rule
is “no distracted driving!” This rule includes things like
picking out songs to play, texting, talking on the phone, and even
eating. I recently watched a movie based on an inspirational true
story. The young lady wrecked her truck reaching for a map on the
passenger seat. The results of the accident altered her life path
dramatically and the things she had to go through were soul crushing.
Her story really inspired lots of thought about how easy it is for
things to go wrong while driving.

It
can wait! Whatever notification is coming in can wait for your
attention. It is so important to keep your eyes and your focus on the
road. There are so many options and features on phones and in
vehicles these days. Bluetooth and hands free options are amazing and
can allow you to stay connected while staying focused. If you don’t
have a car with those options, then there are options on the phones
to not allow notifications or to send a message that you are driving
and that you will respond later. So much better to be safe than
sorry!

And
if you are a young driver and you have a mom that worries like mine,
just make sure that you let her know when you leave somewhere and
when you arrive safely at a new destination but just don’t it
during the drive. Everyone will be safe and maybe worry just a little
less. Always remember…whatever it is…it can wait!
