I
have chosen to volunteer at my church. To me, it is very important
that the next generation kids see that helping is something that
should be necessary, and it is something beneficial. I chose to
volunteer at my church because there are so many opportunities where
I can help. I typically volunteer at least 4 hours a week, but when
we have big events I volunteer for more hours.
As
a volunteer, there are many different responsibilities. In my church
I volunteer to take care of kids. This requires you to be attentive
of the kids. You can’t get distracted because the kids parents are
trusting that their children are in good hands. The biggest challenge
I have faced while babysitting at my church would probably be
learning to be patient. I feel like patience is one of the most
important aspects of being a good volunteer. Kids don’t always act
the same way, so you also must be used to any changes. Additionally,
I also volunteer when we have big events and I either volunteer to
help make food, volunteer to clean up after everyone is gone, or
both. Volunteering sounds as if it might be something easy, but there
are many different responsibilities depending on what you’re
volunteering for.
The
biggest satisfaction for me is knowing that I am contributing to my
community and I don’t expect anything in return. It feels great to
know that you did something voluntarily and that what you did helped
a person or group out. Volunteering, for me, has been a way of
meeting new people and giving me the life skill of communication.
When you volunteer, you always must talk to someone and that helped
me improve my social and communication skills. Helping others gives
you that sense that you are worthy and that you have a purpose.
Volunteering has taught me to value everything in my life so much
more. Some people don’t have many of things we are fortunate enough
to have today.
“Forward
looking,” to me means something that will help you in the future.
My volunteer activities will help me in the future because I will be
more open-minded and accepting of others and their opinions/views.
The change I want via my volunteer activities is for the younger kids
to realize the importance of volunteering. Everyone should find
something that they are very passionate about and find a volunteering
opportunity in that field. If I were to come back in ten, twenty, or
thirty years, I do think my volunteer activities would make a
difference. I strongly believe that others will seem my example and
those who volunteer with me and realize that we like volunteering and
that it isn’t something we do because someone tells us to, but
rather because we genuinely want to help others in our community.
